BBC pundit noticed what Thiago Silva did after scoring for Chelsea against West Ham

Thiago Silva caught the eye of the few watching inside Stamford Bridge and the hundreds of thousands more watching at at home on Monday.

His bullet header set the Blues on course for a vital 3-0 win against West Ham, ending a two-game losing streak and lifting Frank Lampard's side back into the Premier League's top six.

But aside from his high-flying heroics to head in the 10th-minute opener from Mason Mount's corner, something else impressed BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

Crooks named the Brazilian in his team of the week, and hailed the way the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back has adapted to the game's controversial new handball laws – which have seen more defenders penalised in the box under the watching eye of VAR.

Fans' Footballer of the Year

"So Chelsea have put a stop to the back-to-back defeats they suffered recently," Crooks wrote.

"West Ham were no pushovers on the night, regardless of what the scoreline suggests. However, it was the headed goal by Silva that blew me away.

"The way Silva attacked the ball was ferocious and the header flew into the back of the net like a bullet.

"He looks so assured in defence and seems to have adapted to the new handball rules especially well, taking a driven shot at the Chelsea goal in the stomach with his hands firmly behind his back.

"There was no way he was going to give a penalty away. Now that's defending."

Silva has undoubtedly firmed up Chelsea's leaky defence since his summer move, and he is quickly becoming one of the better free transfers of the Premier League era.

The centre-half has two goals to his name in 10 league appearances too, quickly becoming a talisman for Lampard's youthful Blues.
