A bad week for Tottenham Hotspur has seen Serge Aurier guilty of his old bad habits, according to BBC pundit Garth Crooks.
Former Spurs forward Crooks slammed Aurier for his performance against Leicester City on Sunday, with his needless foul on Wesley Fofana gifting the Foxes a penalty in first-half stoppage time – which Jamie Vardy dispatched en route to a 2-0 victory in N17.
Aurier has played his best football at Spurs in recent weeks thanks to Jose Mourinho's disciplined coaching, but the rash decision-making that marred his game in previous seasons crept in again at the weekend as they slipped to sixth in the Premier League.
And Crooks, who also criticised Mourinho's methods and tactics, believes Spurs fans should be concerned that Aurier new-found sensibility in his own third was only temporary.
"This was like reliving a nightmare," Crooks wrote in his BBC column. "I saw Leicester beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane the year the Foxes won the title and Vardy was outstanding that night.
"Just when you thought Serge Aurier had removed that erratic behaviour from his game, he panics and gives away a penalty.
"Barging into attackers on the edge of his own area is the game of fools.
"Aurier has been outstanding recently and to see the defender slip back into old habits is very concerning.
"Come to think of it, watching Spurs revert to everything I hate about a Jose Mourinho team was simply awful.
"If Spurs have to play like that then winning is essential."
