BBC pundit makes surprise claim about Dele Alli's form at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho

Dele Alli is enjoying a new lease of life at Tottenham Hotspur.

His brace against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon has taken his tally to three goals in as many appearances for the north London outfit and he's also chipped in with a couple of assists.

All of which has come during the new era at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Jose Mourinho.

Many have attributed Alli's return to form with the managerial change.

However, former Manchester United defender Phil Neville says he saw signs of the England international getting back to his best whilst Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge.

"He’s back to his best, I actually thought he was coming back to his best before Jose came in," Neville said on Match of the Day. "The two goals he scored are probably two goals he’s been scoring for the last three or four season.

"This is in 2015, long ball from Alderweireld, running in behind and scoring against West Brom. This is the year after at Everton, again Alderweireld long ball through, coming to the ball, running in behind, this is what he does best, great touch, brilliant finish.

"Today, this time the ball over the top is from Alderweireld again, spins in behind, great touch from Son, he sticks it in the back of the net, and just look at the movement here.

"He comes short, spins in behind, perfect pass from Alderweireld, the first touch was great, the second and third touch even better, and the fourth touch was sublime.

"I thought he should have scored his hat-trick later in the game, Sissoko runs forward, again Dele Alli coming in from that left hand side where he likes to play.

"When it comes to him in this position here, composure, hit the target and that’s your match ball.

"He’s a sensational player, he is getting back to his best, and it’s no coincidence that Tottenham are playing well since his return to form.

Next up for Alli and Spurs is a big game against Man United on Wednesday night.

The Lilywhites actually won the corresponding fixture last season when Mourinho was in charge of the Red Devils.

A repeat of the 3-0 scoreline could see Spurs close the gap on the top four should results from elsewhere go in their favour.
