BBC pundit has message for Maurizio Sarri after Gary Cahill's Crystal Palace debut at Man United

Gary Cahill has lost none of his appetite for the game and produced a "stellar performance" for Crystal Palace against Manchester United on Saturday.

That's the verdict of BBC pundit Garth Crooks, who included Cahill in his Premier League team of the week after the former Chelsea captain helped Palace to a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on his debut for the Eagles.

And the former Tottenham and Stoke City forward has sent a message to former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri over his treatment of Cahill during his time in charge in west London.

Writing as part of his team of the week feature for the BBC website, Crooks said: "It was great to see Gary Cahill back in action again having been treated so badly by Maurizio Sarri in last year's Europa League final.

"To leave a player on the bench, at 4-1 up, who had given Chelsea such good service over the years was in poor taste.

"Cahill looks like he has lost none of his appetite for the game and produced a stellar performance for Crystal Palace against Manchester United.

"This was a match United let slip away. When you play for United you can't allow games against the likes of Palace to get away from you. The home crowd are too unforgiving."

This was Cahill's first appearance for the Eagles in the Premier League, having been an unused substitute for Palace's first two league matches of the season, against Everton and Sheffield United.

He did play for the Eagles' U23 side in a Professional Development League clash against Birmingham City earlier this month, having joined Palace on a free transfer following his release from Chelsea.
