BBC pundit explains why Man Utd's £45m signing is 'cheap' and makes Man City comparison

Aaron Wan-Bissaka had a medical at Manchester United on Thursday as he nears an initial £45m move from Crystal Palace which some have labelled expensive.

The Red Devils will make their second signing of the summer transfer window when Wan-Bissaka's deal is confirmed after acquiring Daniel James from Swansea City earlier this month.

But Wan-Bissaka's deal is much higher than the £15m package for James, with an initial fee of £45m agreed for the right-back plus add-ons of around £5m.

That's a transfer outlay which some pundits have scoffed at, especially considering Wan-Bissaka only started in one of three matches in the under-21s European Championships for England this month.

However, former Stoke City star turned BBC pundit Charlie Adam has explained why the deal could actually turn out to be very 'cheap' for the Red Devils in the long run.

"Everyone said John Stones for £50m, too expensive, Raheem Sterling for £50m, too expensive and Kyle Walker too expensive. But they are going to be at those clubs for ten years," Adam told the BBC.

"In eight or ten years time when Wan-Bissaka is still at United, everyone will be saying that was cheap. In the long-term if he stays there a long time, that's cheap."
