Eni Aluko has been seen crying in court after breaking coronavirus quarantine rules in Barbados.
The former England women's footballer left her hotel before she had received her test results having arrived in the Caribbean.
An emotional Aluko told the court that she didn't understand that she had to wait for the results before leaving the hotel.
Barbados has had 138 cases of Covid-19 with seven deaths and the 33-year-old's test results eventually came back negative.
The UK is on the "medium risk" list with the Barbados government website asking that those tested at the airport should "await results at a designated holding hotel/villa at your own expense".
According to local publication Nation News a tearful Aluko told the court: "I came here on the basis that there were more relaxed rules. I love Barbados.
"I came here in 2015. I came here for vacation. I would never, ever try to break any rules.
“I understand that I should have waited on the test. I didn’t think I had to, I thought I had to wait a maximum of time.
"Marriotts said there was a delay to the results and then they let me go.
"Honestly, your worship, if they had stopped me from leaving I would have complied."
Aluko has become a pundit since retiring and is a regular on BBC and Amazon Prime whilst also being sporting director for Aston Villa's women.
Despite escaping a fine Aluko asked whether she could pay one as she "felt really bad".
This is not the first time the former Lioness has been in the spotlight during the coronavirus pandemic.
She was called out after she claimed the furlough scheme was "needed but has created a culture of do-nothing entitlement".
