BBC pundit delivers his verdict on Steven Bergwijn's Tottenham debut vs Manchester City

Steven Bergwijn's debut goal for Tottenham was "the stuff of boyhood dreams."

That's according to former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks, who has heaped praise on the Dutchman after his stunning volley opened the scoring for Spurs in the 2-0 win against Manchester City.

Bergwijn broke the deadlock at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the Dutchman becoming the 250th player to score on his Premier League debut, and the 13th from Holland to do so.

That came just four days after the 22-year-old signed for Spurs from PSV Eindhoven, with Bergwijn handed a start by Jose Mourinho against the Premier League champions.

And Crooks has included him in his team of the week after his performance and goal, with Bergwijn one of three Tottenham players to be named in the BBC pundit's team.

"What a start for the lad," said Crooks.

"To make your Premier League debut against the 'outgoing' champions and to score the goal that changes the game is one thing. To do it with such a wonderful piece of skill is something else entirely.

"The chest control by Steven Bergwijn and the volley that followed was the stuff of boyhood dreams."

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and forward Son Heung-min, who netted the second goal, were also included in Crooks' team of the week.
