BBC presenter feels 'a thousand pieces of fear' as she shares breast cancer update

A BBC presenter has said she feels 'a thousand pieces of fear' as she gave a health update.

The BBC Bristol radio host has announced she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, whilst urging people to get any lumps and bumps checked.

Laura Rawlings admitted she was in "complete shock" as she received her diagnosis and took to her social media to share the news.

She said: "There's no easy way to put this but I need to share what's going on behind the scenes with me. I've been diagnosed with breast cancer that's also in my lymph glands.

"It's a complete shock. I've felt my brain explode into a thousand pieces of fear. I'm massively grateful for all the help and support in putting the pieces together again."

Doctors want to start her chemotherapy in a couple of weeks, which means she'll have to 'duck out' of her usual schedule.

"Sorry if I haven't been able to tell you personally - it's emotionally tough and hospital appointments and admin is full on," Laura added.

"Please don't be a stranger though or feel awkward about getting in touch.

"I welcome distractions and your updates - the normal stuff of life."

She continued: "If you've got any lumps, bumps or any other health worries - get them checked.

"And if you find yourself enter the room that no-one wants access to - I promise it is full of love and support."

Many fans responded with their well-wishes as one person wrote: "I love your show. I haven't met you but feel like I know you.

"Been there, the surgery, the chemo, the radiotherapy. But I'm still here, out the other side, and now dyed my hair blue to stick one to the universe. I'm not saying be brave - it's crap - but sending lots of love"

Another added: "Lovely Laura. Whatever you need; whenever you need it 24/7 … don’t hesitate to call."

A third said: "Laura, My sister had breast cancer and made a full recovery - and you're much fitter than she was. You will beat it ! Love and respect to a top person."

Laura has also launched a fundraiser for Bristol-charity Penny Brohn, which has hugely helped her since her diagnosis.
