BBC presenter and wife having a baby - at the age of 68 and 51

A BBC presenter and his wife are getting ready to have a baby at the age of 68 and 51.

Veteran presenter Harry Gration and wife Helen already have 16-year-old twin boys  Harvey and Harrison.

The BBC Look North presenter, who regularly takes part in charity challenges in his role for the BBC, and his wife, who live in York, have used an egg donor and travelled to Cyprus to have IVF treatment.

British law does not allow women over the age of 51 to have fertility treatment, ExaminerLive reports .

Writing in the Sunday Telegraph Helen explained: "All I could think was: I’m not ready for motherhood to end yet. I’m not done. And then: I want to start again.

"That was just over two years ago, at the end of 2017, and now I’m 20 weeks pregnant at the age of 51."

In a tweet, Harry, who also has three children from two previous marriages, thanked viewers for their well wishes ad joked he still knew his way round changing nappies!

He said: "I do appreciate your kind comments.

"In truth it is my wife and twin boys who are the ones to admire in all this. They give me the strength to challenge those who say I am mad! And I can change a nappy at 68 ! Regards."

Last year Harry celebrated 40 years of broadcasting with the BBC.

Helen is 20 weeks pregnant with the couple looking forward to an October birth.
