BBC Pointless contestant thinks there's a university in Glasgow called 'Straithwide'

It seems there are people out there who could do with improving their general knowledge of Glasgow.

It becomes abundantly clear when it comes to folk picked to appear on TV game shows, following a number of bloopers that have left Glaswegians and fellow Scots not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

We are thinking of the Tipping Point contestant who thought 'St Mirren' was a Scottish city or the fellow contestant on the same ITV show who thought that the University of Strathclyde was located in 'Stratham' - wherever that is.

Unfortunately for us folks, the 'daft' lightning ha struck for a third time, after a contestant on BBC quiz show Pointless uttered what can only be described as a 'pure howler' when presumably asked by the host to name a Scottish or Glaswegian university.

The contestant, a North American woman called Barbara, gave her answer as 'Straithwide' which she said she saw after watching 'University Bowl' (as opposed to 'Challenge').

The University of Strathclyde shared a clip of Barbara's ridiculous answer on the show on Twitter, along with the caption "We are the University of Straithwide".

Naturally, the tweet was met with a wave of humorous responses from their followers.

One person wrote: "My Dad was a proud alumnus. Straithwide Uni.... offering a broad curriculum!", while another responded with: "Before the lockdown I was a proud Strathclyder, now I'm Straithwider."

A similarly perturbed individual wrote: "Dinnae be getting Strath-wide now".

And referring to the previous game show slip-up, another responded with: "The University of Straithwide in Stratham."
