BBC pledge of openness hampered by web glitch silencing Tony Hall

Silence is not golden at the BBC, as Dame Janet Smith’s inquiry into sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile revealed. But if you want to view director general Tony Hall and Trust chair Rona Fairhead’s reaction to the report on the BBC News website, you’re faced with a black screen and the message: “This content is no longer available”. A technological mishap, Monkey is sure – but the sound of silence is not the best signal just 24 hours after Hall expressed his desire to create “a more open BBC”.

Update: The BBC has got in touch to point out that the video was a live feed and that “there is extensive reporting, video and analysis of the Dame Janet Smith report on the website”. Monkey still can’t help but wonder whether it might not have been better to make the full video available somewhere.
