New BBC One drama The Gold is set to dramatise the "crime of the century" with a very high profile and impressive cast. The drama, which is based on a true story, will replace the very popular Happy Valley as the BBC's Sunday night drama.

When does The Gold begin on BBC One?

The Gold will begin on BBC One on Sunday, February 12 at 9pm filling the slot Happy Valley left after the dramatic final of the popular series. All episodes will then be made available at launch on BBC iPlayer, meaning you can binge them all at once, or stretch them out over the coming weeks.

How many episodes are there of The Gold?

There will be six one-hour episodes of The Gold. The episodes will air on BBC One at 9pm on Sundays.

What is The Gold plot and is it based on a true story?

The drama explores one of the most remarkable true crime cases and its impact on the world after the event. Taking place on November 26, 1983, six armed men broke into the Brink’s-Mat security depot near London’s Heathrow Airport.

Known as the "Brink's-Mat robbery" or the "Brink's-Mat bullion heist", the largest gold heist in British history happened on 26th November 1983, like in The Gold. At most, the gang of south London criminals thought that they would come away from the robbery with £3 million. But in reality, they actually ended up finding £26 million worth of gold bars, uncut diamonds, and cash.
