BBC One filming closed road as people dumped plastic in supermarkets

Bedminster's North Street was closed while people drop plastic packaging off at supermarkets as part of a BBC One show today (May 29).

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall led dozens of ecowarriors on a march down the street on May 29 for his new War on Plastic programme.

The presenter told his Twitter followers to meet him at 1.30pm at the Tobacco Factory for the start of the protest, before leaving plastic at supermarkets along North Street.

The street is home to shops including Tesco Express and Aldi.

Fearnley-Whittingstall called on people to take part with the following message: "We know that supermarkets love to get customer feedback.

"Well we're going to do just that and feed our plastic back to the supermarkets.

"Join us on North Street in Bristol on Wednesday, May 29, armed with a piece of single-use plastic packaging from your most recent supermarket shop, write on it 'our plastic feedback' and get ready to hand it back."

The road was closed from 10am until 4pm, by which point the demonstration had finished.
