BBC newsreader Huw Edwards says he did not chase burglar out of his London home in his pyjamas

Huw Edwards has denied reports that he chased a burglar out of his home in pyjamas... and said he is focussing on "more important things. Like Wales winning the Rugby World Cup".

The Sun had reported the 58-year-old BBC newsreader had confronted the intruder inside his house in south-east London, with a source claiming Edwards was “a whisker too late” and the thief made off with his Mercedes.

But this morning Edwards downplayed the incident.

He posted in a tweet: "Yes we had a burglary. No, I didn’t chase the burglar. The police are dealing with it. It happened a month ago. We’re all fine.

"Now back to more important things. Like Wales winning the Rugby World Cup."

The car was recovered the following day, a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said.

The police investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made.

Wales play South Africa in the second Rugby World Cup semi-final in Yokohama, Japan, on Sunday, 24 hours after England's showdown with the All Blacks .
