BBC News viewers point out baffling error as woman refuses to let people in her shop without a mask

BBC News viewers could not help but point out the hypocrisy on Thursday's programme when a woman announced that she would not let anyone into her candle shop if they were not wearing a face covering.

However, the woman was not wearing a face covering herself - leaving many viewers baffled.

Business correspondent Sarah Corker reported from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, as she discussed the new guidelines that say you must wear a face covering in shops.

From Friday, everyone will have to wear face coverings inside a shop, and if you fail to cover your face while visiting a supermarket or High Street shop you may be fined £100.

"If someone refuses to wear a mask, what would you do?" asked Sarah, who was wearing a face covering.

The woman, called Tanya, told Sarah: "If they're just really not going to do it, I'll just say, 'I'm really sorry but no, I can't serve you'.

Rather than get into a situation where I am enforcing anything, I just won't let them in."

As the camera filmed her greeting a customer, she offered for them to sanitise their hands.

The customer was indeed wearing a face covering, but Tanya was not.

One viewer tweeted: The woman on bbc news is refusing people entry into her candle shop if they aren’t wearing a mask but she isn’t wearing one. #bbcnews @BBCOne ".

Another user replied: "Was just looking for a tweet of someone saying this totally agree".

A third ranted: "On BBC News at 6 the candle shop owner was asked what she does about people who refuse to wear a mask, when she wasn’t wearing one in any of the shots.

"This kind of stupidly is absolutely everywhere in this joke of a country."
