BBC News' Victoria Derbyshire struggles with shoes and fails to appear for headlines

Victoria Derbyshire made an awkward appearance on BBC News after she failed to appear for the headlines.

As the BBC News at 9 began on Thursday, the veteran journalist and broadcaster was nowhere to be seen as the theme tune played and the camera panned across an empty studio.

Victoria was then visible behind the desk struggling while bent over, reports The Mirror.

The camera then positioned itself to where she would present from but there was a delay with the audible noise of Victoria breathing and struggling with something.

She could be heard under her breath saying: “Oh my god!”

After a few seconds further of absence, Victoria slowly walked into shot and said: “Sorry about that delay. Good morning.”

Victoria then, ever the professional, launched into the day’s headlines with news about the GCSE results, but the moment did not go unnoticed on social media.

Journalist Scott Bryan shared a video clip of the moment and tweeted: “What is going on here @vicderbyshire?”

He also added with a shortened clip of the moment: “All news bulletins should start like this”.

Victoria later replied to the post and explained exactly what happened: “oh god, I couldn’t get my very high heels on”.

She also shared an image of her high heel shoes from the day on the floor of the BBC News studio.

Viewers on social media were highly amused by the awkward mishap and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person wrote “The calmness of @vicderbyshire when she goes to camera is quite special.”

Another person replied to Victoria’s tweet: “Tell me. How do you walk in shoes like that ?????”

Meanwhile, another viewer tweeted: “BBC News - summing up the feeling of the nation”.

Elsewhere, one individual noted: “True professional though, carried on!”

A different person said: “Last minute shoe change ahoy!”

Another could relate: “Me trying to rush and answer the door to the postman when he’s woken me up”.

One Twitter user added that the news should start this way: “haha, absolutely... just a quiet "omg" spoken into the void.”

Finally, one Twitter user concluded: “Super cool as always @vicderbyshire :-)”
