- Brittin previously served as Google's president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for nearly two decades.
- He will succeed Tim Davie, who announced his resignation last November alongside BBC News chief executive Deborah Turness.
- Davie's departure followed controversy surrounding a Panorama edit of a speech by Donald Trump.
- Brittin is set to assume the role on 18 May, with Rhodri Talfan Davies serving as interim Director-General from 2 April.
