BBC #MeToo drama Rules of the Game has viewers turning off five minutes into first episode

A handful of viewers of the brnd new BBC One drama Rules of the Game, which aired its first episode on Tuesday (January 11), claim to have turned it off 'five minutes in'.

The plot, which is loosely based on the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal and #MeToo campaign, follows the lives of merciless and abrasive chief operation officer Sam and preppy human resources director Maya, who constantly butt heads at the sportswear company they work at.

The clashing pair soon become intrigued however, by the the mysterious death of young female employee, Amy, following a company party some years prior.

Suddenly, another killing on corporate grounds throws Sam into the line of accusation.

Two deaths, one toxic workplace. Just how culpable is the company?

Despite a promising plot, several BBC viewers have taken to the Internet to voice their complaints of the new drama, which stars Maxine Peake and Rakhee Thakrar in the leading roles of Sam and Maya.

One Twitter user, @nigelx31 wrote: "Ugh. Bailed on #RulesOfTheGame after 20 mins. Really very poor."

Another tweeted: "I love Maxine Peake but #RulesoftheGame is so far coming across as a typical BBC drama, long winded and not getting to the point/punch line fast enough."

@WillieMcAlpine added, "Fifteen minutes of terrible dialogue and exposition was enough for us to turn off Rules of the Game", whilst another Twitter user wrote, "Rules of the Game - managed 5 mins of the script... It's a no from me."
