BBC Little Britain: Where the cast are now from best-selling books to Great British Bake Off

Little Britain was one of the most popular comedy shows of noughties.

It's the show that gave us Daffydd Thomas, the "only gay in the village"; Vicky "yeah but no but" Pollard, and Andy Pipkin, the character who faked a disability to gain attention from his carer, to name a few.

While the show raked in a whopping 28 television awards, including various BAFTAs and International Emmy Awards, as a show, it hasn't aged particularly well. In 2020, Netflix, iPlayer and various other major streaming platforms dropped Little Britain for its use of blackface as well as the continued mocking of women, LGBT+ people and minority ethnic groups.

While Little Britain may not be on our screens any longer, you've probably seen most of its main characters in more places than one.

Matt Lucas

Matt Lucas co-wrote the show with David Walliams, and held various roles including Vicky Pollard, Andy Pipkin, Daffydd Thomas and Marjorie Dawes.

Despite Little Britain's fall from prominence, Lucas' career is stronger than ever.

Over the past decade, he has featured in many blockbuster movies including Paddington and Alice in Wonderland, and has had great success on the theatre stage, too.

In a role that seems quite frankly the complete opposite of the character of Vicky Pollard, Lucas played the role of Thénardier in Les Miserables, last performing at Sondheim Theatre, London.

Some of Lucas' latest television appearances have been on The Masked Singer, RuPaul's Drag Race and Celebrity Gogglebox.

In 2020, Lucas became the co-presenter of The Great British Bake Off alongside Noel Fielding - a role that has been received quite well.

David Walliams

Co-writer David Walliams played a range of characters in Little Britain including Jason, Sebastian, Lou Todd and Miss Grace.

In recent years, David Walliams has made a huge name for himself as a children's author, selling 37 million copies of his books. Some of his most popular books include Gangsta Granny, Billionnaire Boy and Mr Stink.

In terms of on-screen appearances, Walliams has stayed quite steadily in the limelight, starting with the hit-show Come Fly With Me, which he wrote alongside Lucas.

Walliams has also been a judge on Britain's Got Talent and has appeared in movies including Great Expectations, Marmaduke and Murder Mystery.

In 2017, Walliams was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Princess Anne for his services to charity and the arts.

Tom Baker

Tom Baker, probably best known for his portrayal of the Doctor in Doctor Who, played the narrator in Little Britain, so fans of the show probably recognise his voice more easily than his face.

Since Little Britain ended in 2007, Baker has gone on to obtain several prestigious voice roles, including for video games such as Shadows: Awakening.

In terms of television roles, Tom Baker played the voice role of Boomer in Wonder Park, and the UK dub voice in Saving Santa.

He also played himself in the radio comedy Little Brexit.

Paul Putner

Paul Putner played the role of Paul Jones, a member of FatFighters.

He and his wife Pat were frequent victims of Marjorie Dawes's insults in the show.

Putner later appeared in Come Fly With Me alongside Matt Lucas and David Walliams, and he later went on to play Gerald 'Jelly' Kelly in the Only Fools and Horses prequel trilogy, Rock & Chips.

In 2013, Putner appeared in Kevin Eldon's sketch show, It's Kevin, as well as an episode of the second series of Wizards vs Aliens as a troll called Mervyn.

Anthony Head

Anthony Head playing Bill in Motherland season 3 (scu)

Anthony Head is best known for his roles as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but he later made a name for himself playing the Prime Minister in Little Britain.

Head has built up an impressive filmography since 2007, landing roles in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monster, The Iron Lady and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, starring as Alfred Pennyworth.

In terms of television appearances, Head has been on the screen pretty much without a break since his time on Little Britain.

In 2017, he played Angel Raziel in the hit-Netflix show Shadowhunters, Uther Pendragon in Merlin, and Bill in Motherland, to name a few.

Joann Condon

One of the most memorable characters on the show played by Joann Condon is 'Pat' from the FatFighters group sketch - another role that is difficult to justify in contemporary contexts.

In recent years Condon has appeared on the BBC show Casualty, where she played the roles of Stella Baker and Fiona Porier, as well as the role of Ada in the TV show The Halcyon.

Condon recently teamed up with Leonie Richie to form Alphamum Productions. She also co-wrote and starred in the theatre production Little Boxes - a production that focuses on the themes of womanhood and self-acceptance.

Condon wrote on the Alphamum website that: "It's natural for people in our lives to want to force us into nice little boxes, but the scary thing is, after a period of time, you end up putting yourself in that same box."

Charu Bala Chokshi

Charu Bala Chokshi played the role of Meera in Little Britain, which was definitely one of the more controversial ones in the series.

Like Pat, Meera was a frequent victim of FatFighters bully Marjorie Dawes, whose running joke was that she couldn't understand a word Meera said, even though she spoke perfect English.

Charu has kept a very low profile since her role in Little Britain with just one film credit, which was for playing the role of a grandmother in the 2010 movie Pusher.

Steve Furst

Steve Furst featuring in The Bill, 2008 (Talkback Thames)

Steve Furst is a comedian, actor and writer who played the role of Dr. Beagrie in Little Britain, alongside various other minor roles such as a police officer.

Some might know Steve Furst as Lenny Beige, the name under which he hosted a residence at Mayfair's Playboy Casino for 12 months in 2012.

Furst later spent several years on Holby City (2014-2017) playing the role of Mr. James.

He also played the role of Dr Gideon Rigler the movie Disobedience - a film that's based on Naomi Alderman's best-selling book.

Leelo Ross

Leelo Ross played the role of Tanya in Little Britain, who was in most of the Marjorie Dawes FatFighters sketches.

Sadly, Leelo passed away in 2016.

Leelo was most famous for her roles in the movies Still Crazy (1998), Love and Other Disasters (2006) and Paradise Grove (2003).

Ruth Jones

(BBC/GS TV Productions Ltd/Tom Jackson)

You don't have to look very far to find Ruth on the TV screen these days.

Famed for her unforgettable performance as Nessa on Gavin & Stacey, it's easy to forget that Ruth once played the character of Myfanwy in Little Britain.

Since 2007, Ruth has made a name for herself as an author as well as an actor, penning the novels Never Greener and Us Three.

She's also starred in Stella, and she currently plays herself in the Channel 4 series Very British Problems.
