BBC hopes to make celebrity version of The Traitors following show's success

The BBC is reportedly looking into creating a celebrity version of The Traitors after the show gained major traction with its first series.

According to the Mirror, an insider has reported that all those involved in the show have been "thrilled" about the positive reception it has received. The insider added that "a celebrity version is a natural next step".

Describing what the celebrity edition of the show would look like, they added: "Viewers will get to see different sides of some big names as they try to manipulate others or uncover the truth about fellow players.” The Traitors' host Claudia Winkleman has reportedly already picked a panel for the star-studded version of the show.

She said: “Victoria Coren, Kirsty Young, Adam Woodyatt, Stephen Fry, Alison Hammond… let’s do that.” Some of those hoping to make the cut include presenter Rylan Clark, Loose Women’s Judi Love, DJ Greg James and Corrie’s Sally Ann Matthews.

The Traitors is set in a Scottish castle where contestants are split into two groups - the faithfuls and the traitors. They must all work together to build up a prize pot by completing challengers, however, different contenders are voted out periodically or are otherwise "murdered" by traitors.

If the faithfuls win, the cash prize is split among them, but they must be able to weed out all the traitors who will win otherwise. On Thursday, the first series was won by faithfuls Aaron Evans, Hannah Byczkowski and Meryl Williams who shared £100,000.

It had a peak of 3.7 million viewers and 17 million views on iPlayer.
