EastEnders and Emmerdale pulled from air following Queen Elizabeth II's death

EastEnders and Emmerdale have been pulled from air following the death of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

In the year of her Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of dedicated service to the Throne, the longest-serving monarch passed away at her beloved Scottish estate, Balmoral, at the age of 96.

Following the announcement, celebrities and reporters paid tribute to the Queen in social media posts and news reports.

And now, the television schedule has been changed and BBC confirmed that EastEnders will no longer be airing.

Emmerdale has also been cancelled.

Both usually air at 7.30pm.

The Mercury Prize 2022 ceremony was also cancelled.

In a statement shared with the Mirror, the organisers said: "Tonight’s Mercury Prize event has been postponed at this time of great national sorrow. We know everyone involved in the Mercury Prize will understand.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family at this very difficult time.

"We will make an announcement regarding future arrangements as soon as we are able."

Following the news, celebrities shared their condolences.

Sharing his heartbreak over the news, Piers tweeted this afternoon: "BREAKING NEWS: RIP Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 96. The greatest Monarch in history, and the greatest of Britons.

"Dignified, humble, wise, stoic, and dedicated to duty & service to the country she loved. Thank you for everything, Ma’am. We will be forever indebted to you."

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."
