BBC Eat Well For Less viewers left confused as host Greg Wallace replaced

The brand new series of BBC One’s Eat Well For Less took viewers by surprise tonight when a new host appeared on screen. This eighth series has seen one of the regular presenters replaced and, of course, it did not go unnoticed.

Gregg Wallace and Chris Bavin usually cohost Eat Well For Less together. However, this year, Jordan Banjo is replacing Gregg to co-host the show with Chris.

Wallace left the show in 2021 because of how many TV shows commitments he had on. Following his departure, he said that he was handing over the "knife and fork to someone else to continue helping people eat well."

However, some fans were not aware of this news and therefore the lack of Gregg’s presence in the show instantly took some by surprise. Within minutes of the show starting, viewers headed to Twitter to express concern over where the usual co-host, Greg Wallace was. @TreborNosraep simply tweeted ‘Where’s Gregg? #EatWellForLess ’.

@Dazoo1977 penned ‘ # eatwellforless Gregg Wallace Free Zone’ assisted with a humorous meme of Gregg Wallace making a funny face. Understandably affected by Gregg’s missing presence, @traceyjane46 wrote ‘Nooo, This is wrong. Where's #Greggwallace? #EatWellForLess ’.

Some viewers were seemingly confused by the new co-host choice for the new season of the show as @jamescunnington wrote ‘ #EatWellForLess Jordan Banjo?! Eh?! Jordan Banjo?!’ Expressing their thoughts on Jordan Banjo replacing Gregg Wallace in this season of Eat Well For Less, @AmyJoanne__ wrote ‘I like Jordan but I miss Gregg #eatwellforless’.

From this first episode of the new series, Banjo seemed to get stuck right into helping Karen and Andy and their children assess their eating habits and opt for healthier options, with a view to saving money.

During the episode, it was revealed that Karen and Andy were spending a whopping £230 per week on their food shopping, which averages out to about £12,000 per year. Karen was stunned by the revelation.

Other helpful tips were shared throughout the show including that meat such as chicken, once defrosted, must be cooked within 24 hours.

Season 8 of Eat Well For Less airs Thursday evenings at 8pm on BBC One.
