BBC EastEnders set for explosive Christmas, says soap star

Christmas is always a big deal in Soapland as the tensions of the festive season cause explosive showdowns, family bust-ups and secrets to come out, causing even more drama.

And this year, EastEnders is promising not to disappoint fans as Lucy Benjamin, who plays Lisa Fowler, told the Metro.co.uk.

The 49-year-old first appeared in the BBC soap in 1998 leaving in 2003, before coming back in 2010, 2017 and again later this year.

She spoke to the UK newspaper on the red carpet of the TV Choice Awards on Monday, she said: "Christmas is going to be big. There’s lots of exciting and fabulous stuff. ‘I think no one is going to be disappointed about Christmas this year."

She also said wherever Lisa goes there is "trouble" and she is loving playing that side of her.

Writer Kate Oates also confirmed to the publication that the festive season will be "huge".

She told the publication: "Much of it will circulate around a very complicated and messy love affair — so expect some major Sheanu drama as it all explodes….but we’ve got some twists and surprises in that story which last right through to New Year."

*EastEnders is on BBC one Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
