BBC EastEnders fans 'heartbroken' by tense prison scenes

BBC EastEnders fans were left heartbroken for Whitney Dean in tonight's tense prison scenes.

The character is locked up after confessing to killing Leo King in self-defence.

Whitney was denied bail last week which prompted her to begin a hunger strike.

Laying curled up on the bed in her cell, a prison officer places a bowl of soup in front of her and tells a story about a previous inmate who tried a hunger strike, but inevitably ended up eating.

Whitney tells the guard: "Because she was weak."

She then poured the bowl of soup down the sink.

Viewers were "heartbroken" for the character.

On Twitter, one fan tweeted: "Heartbroken for Whitney. The more I see @ShonaBM and her amazing performances, the more I’m blown away. The woman is a movie star!"

Chloe said: "Whitney you are breaking my heart, he is one of the good one's and he is only trying to help.....please just eat!"

Lydia said: "Come on! Free Whitney please! How long will she be able to keep this up?"

Other fans weren't impressed with the storyline.

Sarah said: "I don’t get this Whitney storyline. Yeah Leo was stalking her but if I murdered someone I would automatically think I was going to prison, whether I was their victim or not."

Another Twitter user said: "Oh Whitney you bought this on yourself darling so don’t play hard done too."

*Eastenders continues tonight at 8.30pm
