BBC drama Guilt will return for second series and filming starts later this year

BBC drama Guilt will return for a second series, the Beeb has confirmed, with filming to start later this year.

The BBC Two and BBC Scotland production was predominantly shot in Glasgow, with a Merchant City unit used as a stand-in for an Edinburgh record shop in series one and the hit and run which the series centres around taking place in a leafy East Kilbride housing estate.

Other scenes were shot at Clydebank Docks East and Aberfoyle - so despite its Edinburgh setting, the hit show is steeped in Glasgow scenery.

Written by Neil Forsyth, Guilt stars Mark Bonnar and Jamie Lives as two disparate brothers united by their guilt when they accidentally run over an old man - and try to cover their tracks.

It was watched by more than three million people across the UK and was one of the top three most-requested BBC Scotland titles on iPlayer.

Patrick Holland, Controller, BBC Two said: “Neil Forsyth’s Guilt was a dark gem in last year’s schedules and I am delighted that the team are returning for a new series.  It was a real treat to have Neil’s sharp writing and the wonderful performances, weaving a brilliant tale of lies, deception and skulduggery.  Audiences across the UK await series 2 with relish….”

Steve Carson, Head of Multi-Platform Commissioning, BBC Scotland added: “Guilt was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our year on BBC Scotland and we’re thrilled to bring it back for a second series. Neil Forsyth’s ability to marry comedy and drama together and the brilliant cast that brought his scripts to life made for compelling viewing and made Guilt a must-see moment on TV and iPlayer. With guilt finally catching up with the characters at the end of the last series, who knows what direction Neil will take them in the new series?”

Filming is expected to start later this year, although the BBC have yet to confirm exact locations and, as with any productions being shot at the moment, it’s subject to government coronavirus guidelines.

The four-part second series will air on both BBC Two and BBC Scotland in 2021.
