BBC documentary to explore brutal killing of Renfrew dad Paul Mathieson

The brutal killing of Renfrew dad Paul Mathieson is to be explored in a new documentary.

The 37-year-old's death will feature in BBC Scotland series Murder Case as it returns to screens in October.

The series follows the work of Police Scotland 's Major Investigations Team as they deal with some of the most complex and shocking murders to take place in Scotland.

The first episode 'Captured on Camera' follows the aftermath of the death of Paul Mathieson, who was viciously attacked on a Renfrew street in 2018.

A murder investigation was launched following the attack, which was captured on grainy CCTV.

The documentary follows the investigation as it becomes a complex ‘whodunnit’ inquiry when the perpetrator can't be identified and disappears from the scene.

Paul’s sister Amanda Digby – an A&E nurse at the hospital where Paul was taken - was enlisted to help appeal for information.

For over five months some of the most skilled detectives in Scotland worked tirelessly to try and identify the attacker.

With a lack of any forensic evidence, vulnerable and unreliable witnesses, the search seemed almost impossible until a pair of trainers gave detectives the breakthrough they needed.

Murder Case will air on BBC Scotland on Tuesday, October 6 at 10pm and on Wednesday, October 7 on BBC Two at 9pm.
