BBC cutbacks will not affect Northern Ireland, corporation says

Large scale cutbacks announced by the BBC today do not affect Northern Ireland, the corporation says.

Plans to "modernise" the BBC's newsroom will lead to an estimated 450 job losses, the BBC said earlier on Wednesday.

The cuts include the end of the Victoria Derbyshire programme, which was announced last week.

In a brief statement issued from Ormeau Avenue, BBC NI said: "The plans announced by BBC News in London do not affect our local news services.

"We understand their impact on BBC staff and also the difficult financial context in which these decisions have been made. We will continue to make our coverage as efficient and effective as we can, while providing our audiences with the high quality journalism they expect and deserve."
