BBC confirms The Traitors is returning for second series with Claudia Winkleman as host

The Traitors has been confirmed for a second season with Claudia Winkleman returning as host after an epic first series.

BBC bosses announced today that The Traitors has been greenlighted for another season, as Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia encouraged fans to apply for the series. The TV personality will front the show which describes itself as the 'ultimate game of trust and treachery' as 22 contestants battle it out in the Scottish Highlands in the hopes of winning £120,000.

The show took viewers by storm last year, and became an overnight reality TV sensation with critical acclaim. Viewers watched as the group put their detective skills to the test and try to expel all the Traitors from within the group, before landing the cash prize.

The Traitors was filmed in the Scottish Highlands as the contestants took part in the reality show in the glamorous Ardross Castle. Following the news, Claudia said: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”

The show became the biggest new series for young audiences across all BBC titles last year and has raked in an impressive 34 million viewers since launching.

In a video posted to Twitter, Winkleman also encouraged potential contestants to apply, asking: "Can you spot a liar? Could you betray those around you? How would you fare at the round table?" You can apply via the BBC Take Part page here.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, says: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense. We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls.”

This comes after the explosive season finale saw Scots star Meryl Williams winning the show alongside Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski. The trio split the £101,000 prize pot between them taking home a nice percentage of the lump sum each.

The Traitors is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
