BBC Britain's Top Takeaway viewers slam presenters as Edinburgh restaurant appears on show

A much loved family run restaurant in Edinburgh appeared on our televisions screens in a bid to win and take home the title of Britain's Top Takeaway tonight (Tuesday 10 May).

The BBC Two show sees famous faces, Sara Cox and Darren Harriot, host the second episode all about Indian night with five of the best takeaways competing against each other.

Trying to take home the crown and making Scotland proud are mother and son duo Paula and Stevie who run Sabzi (pronounced sub-zee) located on Ferry Road in the Capital.

Judging the Indian cuisine and deciding who wins are takeaway-loving families who will rate the food from the comfort of their own homes.

Sharing some BTS footage on Instagram ahead of the show, Sabzi wrote: "We’re on Britain’s Top Takeaways tonight! Catch us on BBC Two at 8pm.

"Here’s a little snippet of our journey on the show from behind the scenes, which was just incredible."

Talking on the show, the pair revealed their cooking derives from Northern India and setting out to make their first dish, they cooked one of the most popular types of curries in Punjab, Achari Pork, consisting of tender pieces of pork in a pickled spiced sauce.

The verdict from the takeaway testers came in and some loved the dish whilst others were not convinced.

One pair said: "My fork fell just through it it's so soft...they're spoiling us."

Another added that the sauce wasn't "too runny and not too thick."

However other testers were unsure saying it was "horrible" and they "don't want any more" with another pair adding the pork itself was nice but "lumps of fat" put them off.

The Scottish pair scored a total of six during the first round taking them to the third spot.

In the second round the pair opted to make a Chole Bhature - a deep fried sourdough bread stuffed with spiced chickpeas.

Speaking about their love for cooking, Stevie said they want to be "all about home cooking" as well as mixing Scottish classics with Indian classics.

One of their famous dishes is said to be Aloo Gobi toasties - a twist on a cheese toastie instead filled with spices and potatoes which sold out twice in one day during a pop-up.

Their second Punjabi classic was highly rated among the taste testers with one calling it "very nice" however they later said there "wasn't much flavour" and in this round the pair scored three points leaving them in 5th place overall.

Looking to change this and jump up on the leader board the mum and son duo prepared their third and final dish of Punjabi monkfish.

However sadly the Edinburgh pair didn't quite make it scoring a total of 19 leaving them in 4th place overall at the end of the show.

Stevie added: "It's been such an amazing day. It's been long but phenomenal" and Paula even shed a few tears.

However, whilst many were drooling over the dishes, some were more focused on the pronunciations of dishes made by the hosts, with some branding it 'insensitive'.

Taking to social media to support one said: "Enjoying this prog, great selection of authentic dishes and talented chefs.

"But...as the narration is so important to the storytelling, more effort needed to work on proper pronunciations of the dishes. This is so important! Some great, some very bad."

Another added: "Please can the presenter learn how to get the correct pronunciation of the food being prepared. It is not a comedy programme or the BBC news."

A third tweeted: "Samosa chaat. Pronounce chaat like fart not chaat like chat lol" followed by an eye roll emoji.
