BBC Breakfast viewers in stitches as Naga Munchetty kicks co-star during on-air blunder

Those tuning into BBC Breakfast on Thursday morning were left in hysterics after Naga Munchetty kicked her colleague Charlie Stayt to catch his attention following an on-air blunder which was caught by the cameras and spotted by viewers.

The 48-year-old television host and journalist presented alongside her co-star for the latest instalment of the breakfast show where they chatted to their guest barrister Victoria Butler-Cole about accessing trust funds for families with disabled children.

And as the interview got underway, the Mirror reports there was a split screen view between Naga and her interviewee, which followed on from a short news segment about the issues some families were facing.

But halfway through their chat, the camera had pulled back to show a wide-angle shot of the BBC studios catching the hosts off-guard and whilst Naga was facing the camera, Charlie was seen in the zone reading the latest headlines of the morning papers.

Realising they were both pictured on-screen accidentally, Naga lightly kicked her colleague to try and grab his attention but it seems he wasn't any of the wiser as he didn't even flinch and luckily cameras quickly cut away to show the guest on the full screen.

Viewers were quick to take to social media following the hilarious blunder, as people took to Twitter admitting they found it funny and she should have "kicked him harder".

One viewer wrote: "@BBCBreakfast presenter #Charlie Stayt gets a gentle kick on the leg as a friendly reminder that he's live on camera from co-host # Naga Munchetty while he's seen reading a newspaper during an interview with an online guest as he's sat in the studio on the #BBCBreakfast sofa!"

A second added: "Charlie getting booted by Naga for reading the paper #BBCBreakfast," whilst a third took to Twitter to pen: "Charlie getting a kicking this morning #BBCBreakfast #FridayVibes #Naga."

"You need to kick him harder @TVNaga01 #BBCBreakfast," a fourth quipped, as a fifth added: "Not so sneaky kick Naga."

We reported previously how Naga had to briefly step down from the BBC show due to illness a few weeks ago.

"Right now, as I sit here talking to you, I am in pain, constant, nagging pain in my uterus, around my pelvis," she said, "I had a 10-day period every three weeks, passing out and being sick each time and feeling like I had been 'stabbed in the abdomen'. I felt weak but also angry. Every time I told a doctor about it I was told I was just unlucky."

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One.
