BBC Breakfast viewers were left cringing on Thursday morning, as co-hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt engaged in an awkward discussion about car-related event from more than 60 years ago.
The early morning presenters were sat the the red sofa as they made they way through the day's newspapers, discussing the stories hitting the headlines as the nation woke up.
After chatting about the news that a study has found puzzle solving skills can be improved by supping tea rather than water, the BBC stars then turned their attention to a story involving a car many decades ago.
"Do you know what happened in this day in 1959?" Charlie quizzed his 46-year-old co-presenter.
"How long have we got to guess?" Naga cheekily replied.
The mood turned slightly awkward as Charlie shut her down, replying: "Well, you're not really going to guess, are you - else you'd go on all day!"
The pair then went on to pick fellow presenter Ben Thompson's brains as they continued muse about what could have happened in the car industry back in 1959.
"Very important in the car industry," 59-year-old Charlie hinted to his co-stars.
"Double clutching stopped," Naga eagerly guessed.
"No, that carried on for a long time. Reverse was put in? Handbrake was made handbrake!" she continued to no success.
As the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant offered her guesses, Charlie shut her down with a simple "no" in response to her suggestions.
Co-star Ben didn't have much luck either, opting for "power steering" as his venture at just what happened on this day in 1959.
"No!" Charlie sternly repeated again.
"To do with production. A car."
Clearly tired of waiting for his two fellow presenters to guess correctly, the dad-of-two put viewers at home out of their misery and revealed the correct answer.
"This really isn't working very well, is it? 1959 - the Mini was first unveiled on this day in 1959," he announced after a few unsuccessful guesses.
However, Naga was quick to point out that her and Ben hadn't exactly been given the correct context of the story.
"Well, that's not about what changed in the car, is it?" the star snapped back at her co-host on Thursday morning.
"That's just about what new car came to light. You didn't ask the question correctly!"
Appearing keen to move on from the car debate between the two BBC Breakfast presenters, Ben tried to lighten to mood with a light hearted quip.
"I think we needed more tea for that quiz," the journalist joked, relating back to the earlier tea-based story discussed.
The tension in the studio didn't go unnoticed by some viewers watching at home.
"@BBCBreakfast why continue to put Naga and Charlie on together, they apparently clash and it becomes about them and not the news! Does my head in..." one fan of the morning show tweeted following the awkward scenes.
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
