BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern narrowly avoids injury after runaway door prop blows away

BBC Breakfast host Steph McGovern managed to avoid injury from a runaway door as she filmed a segment on live TV.

McGovern had been speaking to people in Sheffield about how the government should raise more money and was using a “magic door” to “teleport” around the city.

But the wind proved too strong leaving the wooden prop flying off down a hill before crashing to the ground inches from McGovern’s feet.

After being asked by Louise Minchin about the errant prop, McGovern explained: “I took out this door as I wanted a way to transition from different shots and, you know, Sheffield being the home of Dr Who at the minute with the Tardis, and all that.

“It was windy, the door was very heavy and as a result this happened,” she added before the programme showed the hilarious caught-on-camera clip.

As the door fell, McGovern was forced to jump out of the way to avoid being taken out by the prop.

The news reporter can then be heard asking the camera man if they had managed to record the mishap – which of course they had, and were ready to share on social media.

Posting the video for those who missed it on air to see, the BBC Breakfast Twitter joked about it being the “very last time Steph would be trusted with a prop”.

The tweet read: “You know what they say: when one door closes, another one opens...or in this case rolls away, blows over and shocks a farm of goats and Shetland ponies.

“This is the VERY LAST time we trust @stephbreakfast with a special @BBCBreakfast prop!”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
