BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty saddened by colleague's loss after her own cat died

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has been among those expressing sympathy to BBC colleague Simon King this week following a recent bereavement.

Simon - who is lead BBC Weather presenter - took to Twitter a few days ago to announce that his cat Alfie had passed away, with the feline having been put to sleep.

Alongside a photo of the ginger cat, Simon tweeted: "He had a good life of 17 years but old age issues finally caught up with him and we had to say goodbye to Alfie today."

Naga, 47 - who works alongside Simon on the likes of BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live - responded to the sad news this week, with her tweeting: "So sorry Simon."

Simon had written "rest in peace my tiger" in the tweet and later revealed that Alfie had been put to sleep, in response to a follower who had gone through a similar experience.

The meteorologist told the follower: "We had to make that decision and it was so hard. Just had to keep remembering it was the best thing for him in the circumstances."

Naga wasn't alone in expressing condolences over the loss. Others who responded included BBC presenter Owain Wyn Evans, 38, who wrote: "So sorry to hear this Simon."

The news comes just a month after Naga - who is married to TV consultant James Haggar - announced on social media that one of their own cats, Missy, had passed away.

She wrote alongside photos of the feline: "Said goodbye to our darling, sweet girl Missy yesterday." The journalist added: "She may have been small but she was immense in stature."

Naga - who has two other cats - further wrote about the late Missy: "The sweetest cat I've ever loved. She's left a massive hole in our hearts and home."

Her post attracted condolences from some of her followers on the platform, with one person responding: "Really sorry Naga. [...] She will never really leave you. Huge hugs to you."

Another commented: "Oh I'm so sorry. It's devastating. Big hugs." Whilst a third follower said: "So sorry for your loss. They do leave a big hole in our hearts when they leave us."

"Aww sending love and hugs. Losing family [is] so hard. Our pets are family," wrote another person. Whilst one follower said: "Sorry for your loss Naga. Sending you much love."
