BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty hits out at Carol Kirkwood over 'bad' name blunder

Naga Munchetty has hit out at her BBC Breakfast co-star after an embarrassing blunder live on air.

The BBC Breakfast presenter was joined in the studio by Carol Kirkwood as she gave her latest weather report.

But as Carol gave an update on the storms which had swept the UK overnight, she made an error at the end of her segment.

When she handed back to Naga, she accidentally mispronounced her name.

Wrapping up her report, Carol said: “The winds will be lighter, just a few showers coming in from the north-west and temperatures ranging from nine to 13 degrees, Nana.”

Quickly correcting her mistake, she immediately apologised to her co-star and said: “Naga, sorry, we’ve got a producer called Nana.”

“You say that every single time,” Naga jibed back, adding: “And I come and visit you and have a cup of tea.

“I bring you a cup of tea and have a nice chat and I’ve never met Nana.”

Teasing Carol, Naga continued: “I think Nana is a phantom producer that you just make up so you can abuse me by mispronouncing my name."

Covering her face with her hands, Carol hit back: “The shame, Naga, the shame.”

Giving viewers a behind-the-scenes insight into the show, she said: “Nana is very much alive and kicking and very lovely with it.”

Backtracking, a laughing Naga admitted: “I have met Nana. Nana is very nice.

“You are very lucky to have such a nice producer especially when you behave so badly.”

Carol then quipped: “You are awful, but I do like you.”

Naga’s co-presenter – who clearly hasn’t met Nana - then chipped in to say: “Tell us about Nana, Carol, is she lovely?”

“He,” Naga corrected him, before Charlie replied: “Oh, it’s a he.”

Carol said: “Charlie, he’s tall, he’s handsome, he’s young, he’s very capable – and I hope he’s listening to this!”

It’s the second blunder in a week for Carol, who had to apologise for making a spelling error during a report on Tuesday.

The meteorologist showed a graphic on the screen as she demonstrated winds in the areas of Bournemouth, Bridlington and Birmingham.

But eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out the word Birmingham had been mixed up and spelled ‘Brimingham’.

“Sorry about the spelling of Birmingham,” she said, before continuing: “But you can see how gusty it is.”

Ever the professional, Carol added: “And you can also see how the rain has been continuing to push northwards and eastwards through the morning.”
