BBC Breakfast's Louise Minchin on her next career move

Louise Minchin has issued an update on her next career move.

The 53-year-old broadcaster bid farewell to BBC Breakfast last week after 20 years on the morning news show.

During a brief chat with her former co-host Dan Walker, the presenter revealed what she is about to work on next - as Birmingham Live reports.

She said: "One of the things I can tell you that I’m doing after I leave, is I’m doing a programme about menopause for World Menopause Day.”

Dan Walker said: "That’s about the only piece of information she’s given anybody,”

Dan is currently performing on this season of Strictly Come Dancing and he revealed how Louise was concerned about announcing her next project.

He said: "You were really worried, weren’t you? About talking about [the menopause],”

Louise replied: "I was really worried”

Louise thanked her co-presenter of the last five years in her heartfelt leaving speech and said it was due to him that she had stayed on the show "much longer than I actually meant to".

She added: "We've been through tough stories. We've been through tough programmes. The one thing has been absolutely clear... you always have my back.

"You've made me laugh, you made me roll my eyes, you pass me tissues when I cried..."

Louise first joined the BBC on a freelance basis in 2001 before she become the regular anchor in 2006.

The BBC have yet to confirm who will replace her as the permanent presenter on the breakfast news show.

World Menopause Day is on October 18.
