BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker risks chaos before exit after alarm fail

Dan Walker risked throwing BBC Breakfast into chaos, days before he quits, after an alarm fail saw him sleep in for work.

Many loyal BBC viewers were blindsided by long-running presenter Dan's announcement earlier this year that he would be following former presenter partner in crime Louise Minchin off the show's famous red sofa, confirming he was moving to pastures new for a job on Channel 5.

Writing on Twitter, the former Football Focus anchor told his many followers: ""I'm really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me as I love BBC Breakfast, I love working alongside Sally (Nugent) and I love the team there. But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don't think opportunities like this come along very often and I can't wait."

Last week Dan revealed that his final day on BBC Breakfast will be Tuesday, May 17, with colleague Sally Nugent remarking: "That's not may shifts left is it? That's not many early alarms calls." Dan told her: "six more three o'clockers then I'm out of here!" Well, Dan's response to Sally almost came back to haunt him last week when he forgot to set his alarm and ended up running late for work.

Confessing all online, Dan, who was a contestant on Strictly last year, posted: "My last ever Wednesday on #BBCBreakfast and guess what? I forgot to set my alarms for the first time in 6 years Thankfully the body clock kicked in and I wasn’t too late. I hope you can join us today." One of his followers quipped: "It is pretty good when you’re on the last few days in a job and you lose interest completely tbf," while, along the same lines, another reacted: "Mentally you’d left the show! All the best!!"

When Louise walked away from BBC Breakfast in the autumn, emotions ran high on her final show as Dan gave an emotional goodbye speech in her honour, so don't be surprised to see him get choked before credits roll on Tuesday morning.
