BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood, 60, believes she’ll be axed from show in 10 years

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood has claimed her time on the morning stalwart will be up in the next 10 years due to her age.

The weatherwoman, 60, has presented weather updates on the show since 1997 and while she “loves” her job, she doesn’t believe she’ll still be doing it at 70.

She told the Western Mail: “I try not to worry about things I can’t change. I don’t want to go, but one day it’s going to happen.

“Hopefully, it will be natural but I also have to acknowledge I’m 60 and am unlikely to be at the BBC when I’m 70, I would have thought.”

Kirkwood added: “It’s the natural course of events… I don’t want to be using a stairlift to get to the studio in the morning. But I love my job.”

The TV star’s comments come three months after she confirmed her engagement to her fiancé, whose name has not been revealed publicly.

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent announced her news live on the show in May.

Nugent shared: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol.”

To which Kirkwood replied: “Oh that one, thank you Sal. It is rather nice, I got engaged.”

The weather expert later took to Twitter and thanked viewers for their well wishes, writing: “have just been reading through all your lovely tweets. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

“I am really touched … and very happy!!”

After confirming her engagement, Kirkwood was inundated with congrats from her fellow BBC colleagues including journalist Victoria Fritz and former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker.

Walker tweeted at the time: “Carol Kirkwood is the best of us. Delighted she has found someone who can handle her headlock hugs.

“Congratulations Carol. If you get married live on #BBCBreakfast can I come back for a one off?”
