BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty, 46, celebrates being ID’d for booze

BBC breakfast host, Naga Muchetty, was deemed too young-looking to buy alcohol last week and was refused service due to forgetting her ID.

Revelling in the hilarity of the moment, she tweeted: “Am winning at life in a small way this morning… Just been refused to be sold a bottle of wine at the local supermarket by the lovely lady at the till because I had no I.D.”

The beautiful news broadcaster, 46, certainly boasts youthful looks, so it doesn’t come as too much of a shock, though her Twitter fans and BBC colleagues poked fun at the situation.

“Not surprised you look 16 years old! #greatskinenvy,” one of Naga’s BBC colleagues, Sangita Myska replied.

Another one of Naga’s BBC colleagues, Sophie Raworth, 52, tweeted back with a similar story, saying: “I got ‘carded’ recently to see if I was over 25 in a supermarket. I was wearing a mask and a hat to be fair. But still.”

Sky News journalist Jayne Secker also joined in the discussion proving that youthful looks must be a common denominator amongst news presenters.

The 48-year-old replied: “Well done. I was ‘checked’ by an older lady the other day who said I looked ‘much too young’ but she would let me have it. Wanted to kiss her."

One Twitter fan of Naga’s get involved and said: “You certainly don’t look your age Naga so if someone is applying the “Challenge under 25” you definitely should take it as a compliment though I’d want my wine!”

Another one writing: “Wow name the skin products please lol.”

In the UK, it is currently illegal to buy any alcohol products if under the age of 18, but many stores operate with a Challenge 25 policy, a scheme that encourages anyone who is over 18 but looks under 25 to carry an ID with them when they want to purchase alcohol.

Naga also hit the headlines this week when she and co-host Charlie Stayt were missing from screens on Thursday morning’s show.

The much-loved TV presenters usually appear on the BBC programme at the end of the week but instead were replaced by Sally Nugent and Ben Thompson.

And it didn’t take long for fans to realise. On Twitter, one wrote: “Where is Naga and Charlie?”

Another made a cheeky comment saying: “So have Charlie and Naga got the boot from @BBCBreakfast?”

The BBC are yet to confirm when the presenters will return to the sofa.

It's not unusual for Naga or Charlie to take time off from presenting duties. However, they don't usually do it at the same time.

Alongside BBC Breakfast presenting, Naga also hosts a BBC Radio 5 Live show, which she fronts every Monday to Wednesday.
