BBC Breakfast host gives birth as news announced live on air

BBC Breakfast presenter Nina Warhurst has given birth to her third child.

The 42-year-old only went on maternity leave last week but colleagues Jon Kay and Sally Nugent shared the happy news live on air on Monday.

Sally said: "Some very, very happy news to share about our colleague Nina Warhurst. We said goodbye to her not very many days ago as she went off on maternity leave. "She has welcomed a very healthy, beautiful baby girl."

Jon added that the baby's name is still "a work in progress", Wales Online reports. He added: "The great news is they are all doing well after what Nina says was brilliant care from the team at St Mary's in Manchester."

Sally said Nina was watching at home with her daughter and two sons and wanted to thank all the kind messages the family had received.

Nina also shares two boys with her husband Ted. Their eldest son, Digby, was born in 2016 and their second child, Michael, arrived two years later in 2018.

Nina and Ted, who reportedly works as a caterer, have been married since 2014. The couple met while on holiday in Tisno, Croatia back in 2013 and went on to tie the knot the following year.

The broadcaster announced her third pregnancy back in March in an Instagram post to celebrate Mother's Day.

She was flooded with support as she started her maternity leave on June 21 as Nina joked "I went big early, I'm big boned, actually I'm not big boned I just popped out early so it felt like I've been pregnant forever and for months people have been saying 'your bosses at the BBC need to let you go'."
