BBC Breakfast faces backlash from viewers after Sarah Harding tribute mishap

BBC Breakfast came under fire from viewers after broadcasting a tribue.

The morning news bulletin was covering the death of Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding.

Sarah Harding sadly passed away from breast cancer at the weekend at just 39.

Friends, family and fans took to social media to give their condolences and share memories of the singer.

However BBC Breakfast was welcomed with backlash after spelling her name incorrectly today (Monday September 6), Birmingham Live reports.

Hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin spoke to Lizzie Cundy, a friend of Sarah's.

But the caption underneath read: "Friend of Sarah Hardy."

Many outraged viewers took to Twitter, claiming it was 'disrespectful' to the late pop star.

One wrote on Twitter : "It’s Sarah Harding not Sarah Hardy !- attention to detail not good especially at this awfully sad time."

A second commented: "So important to get those details right, especially when dealing with grief. Do better."

"Come on," wrote a third.

"pretty lazy and disrespectful," said another.

"The name under Lizzie's name says Sarah Hardy?!" another asked.

Another wrote: "Sarah Hardy? If you're going to do a sentimental piece of someone who has passed away, at least get the bloody name right on the banner".

"friend of "Sarah Hardy"??? Really BBC? How utterly disrespectful to get Sarah Harding's name wrong! Apologies?" asked another.

The singer revealed last August that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body.

On Sunday, her mother Marie announced the death on Instagram, saying her "beautiful" daughter was "a bright shining star".
