BBC bosses 'planning celebrity version of The Traitors' after surprise success

BBC bosses are reported to be planning a celebrity version of The Traitors after its first season became the surprise smash hit success of the end of 2022.

Millions tuned in to the reality TV murder mystery hosted by Claudia Winkleman and filmed at Ardrossan Castle in the Scottish Highlands. They saw Scots player Meryl Williams walk away with a whopping £33,000 along with Hannah Byczkowski and Aaron Evans.

The first series saw 22 contestants complete secret missions to bag a huge cash prize which started off at just over £100,000 and throughout 12 episodes, they had to decide who were the 'traitors' and who were the 'faithfuls'.

But it looks like the celeb version might just be a one-off and for charity, and a TV insider has said that it's most likely to be filmed in time for Comic Relief, writes the Mirror.

And it sounds like Claudia already knows who she wants to feature in the episode, as she's reported to have said: "Victoria Coren, Kirsty Young, Adam Woodyatt, Stephen Fry, Alison Hammond… let’s do that."

Series 1 of The Traitors came to an end on BBC One Scotland on Thursday night after an intense finale which saw three contestants split the money.

Edinburgh call centre worker Meryl Williams, along with Hannah Byczkowski and Aaron Evans, who were all 'faithfuls', walked away from the hugely popular BBC programme tonight with £33,000 each in their pockets.

Host Claudia Winkleman said: "Guys, I am so, so happy for the three of you," before Meryl screamed: "We have thirty three f****** grand."

All three had managed to survive numerous 'murders' and banishments throughout the BBC series. Traitors Wilfred Webster and Kieran Tompsett were the only contestants in the final sent home without a share of the £101,050 prize fund.
