BBC Best Interests: Viewers in tears at 'powerful' new Michael Sheen and Sharon Horgan drama

Praise has been heaped on new BBC drama Best Interests, which began airing on Monday, June 12. The four-part series stars Welsh actor Michael Sheen and Sharon Horgan as two parents forced to make the most difficult of decisions.

Best Interests, which is not based on a true events, tells the story of Marnie (Niamh Moriarty), who has a life-threatening condition. The synopsis for the Jack Thorne-penned series reads: “The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her loving family disagree. And so begins a fight that will take them through every stage of a legal process, as they struggle to contemplate this huge decision. Who decides? And in whose best interests will it be?"

“Well #BestInterests on BBC One was a tough watch,” one viewer began. “Fantastic acting and a slowly revealing plot involving the whole family battling through a hideous condition. It's a lose-lose situation.”
