BBC Bargain Hunt viewers told to act after value of item every kid had unveiled

Bargain Hunt viewers were told to act after the modern day value of a retro children's craze was unveiled.

Charlie Ross hosted Monday's edition of the popular BBC show. Two new teams were tasked with finding the best value of money with their £300 budget.

Away from the search, the presenter spoke to expert Charles Hanson about the world's largest Pokemon collection. The card collecting craze took the world by storm when they were first released in 1996.

The experts were staggered as they explored the collection on today's show and explained why it is now so valuable. Charles said: "What was wonderful was she collected, put them down, boxed them away and left them forever more. That's where the value is and the fact their condition hasn't been touched."

The collection featured more than 20,000 items and Charles estimated it was now worth between £200,000 - £300,000. The presenter was taken aback by the confession.

He said: "These pocket monsters would have cost just pocket money back in the day. It's incredible that something so recent can become so valuable so quickly." Charlie urged people to rummage through their homes to see if there was any Pokemon memorabilia of value.

He said: "Definitely worth checking your toy boxes at home. You never know what you might find."

Viewers following the show on Twitter were similarly stunned by the value of Pokemon cards.

Beckie said: "I’m sorry, what?"

A Twitter user added: "I just don't get why people pay hundreds and thousands for pieces of printed card"

Mick commented: "There’s some crackers prices for some cards"

Another tweeted: "Oh for a time machine to travel back to 1999 and stock up on Pokémon"
