BBC Antiques Roadshow viewers 'too emotional' to watch tribute to the Blitz

BBC Antiques Roadshow viewers were emotional during a special edition of the popular show this evening - with some fans unable to watch.

Tonight's episode of Antiques Roadshow was a special edition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, which took place between July and October in 1940.

Fiona Bruce presented the special edition which combined stories from all over the country with a special event filmed at Biggin Hill Airfield.

The episode told the story of a defining moment in Britain's war, through the people and objects who were there.

The show began with presenter Fiona on board the iconic Supermarine Spitfire, flying over the Weald of Kent.

She described it as a "thrilling, overwhelming experience".

Throughout the rest of the episode, the Antiques Roadshow team uncovered the stories behind family mementos, including a scramble bell which got the pilots into the air, ops room models which tracked their every move and a steering column from a British fighter shot down in combat.
