BBC Antiques Roadshow expert spots valuable item on Scouser 'everybody wants'

An Antiques Roadshow expert spotted a valuable item on a Liverpool man that stunned him with its price-tag.

Sunday's edition of the BBC programme took place at an auction in Sefton Park. Fiona Bruce returned to front the episode and explained how some of the most precious items are in places where you least expect it.

She said: "People have flocked to Sefton Park with all sort of intriguing items but occasional the most interesting things are hidden in plain sight." A Scouser had made the journey to the auction to find out the valuation of a key machine.

However, expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan was more interested in a completely different item as he spotted the watch the seller was wearing. He said: " It's a Rolex but it looks like the bezel has been changed. This had what is called a Pepsi bezel of red and blue."

The seller explained that he received the watch as a 21st birthday present from his mum and dad in 1968. He said: "They done it on higher purchase so on the knock as we might say."

The Rolex was valued at £8,000 - £10,000 (BBC)

Ronnie used to specialise in watches and was taken aback as he said the gift was GMT-Master. He added: "These are really collectible. Everybody wants them."

The Merseyside seller was blown away as Ronnie valued the item between £8,000 - £10,000. The expert added: "If it had the original bezel, it would be £14,000 - 15,000. That's a very lovely piece."

The excited seller shot back: "That's a fair price. Time to get the bezel changed then."
