BBC announces cast for new crime drama from Line of Duty producers

Line of Duty series six has had viewers gripped every Sunday night for the last few weeks.

Episode five ended on a massive cliffhanger with fans desperate to know the outcome. You can read what Adrian Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings, has said about missed clues here.

But with only two episodes left to go, many will be looking for new crime dramas to fill the huge Line of Duty shaped void when this series ends..

Luckily, BBC One has already started filming a brand new drama, what's more, it comes from the producers of Line of Duty, Bodyguard and The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Called Showtrial, the new legal drama is centered on a criminal trial that grips the nation.

Creator and writer, Ben Richards, said: "The right to a fair trial and the idea of reasonable doubt lie at the heart of a civilised society. Showtrial explores how they can be distorted by other factors, in a world where concepts such as fairness, doubt and reason are afforded such diminishing value."

Tracy Ifeachor (Quantico, Treadstone, The Originals); James Frain (Star Trek: Discovery, True Detective, Gotham) and Sharon D Clarke (Rocks, Doctor Who, Kiri) have been cast alongside Sinéad Keenan (Little Boy Blue, Care, Three Families); Celine Buckens (Warrior, Bridgerton); Kerr Logan (Strike, Alias Grace, Game of Thrones) and Lolita Chakrabarti (Vigil, Criminal: UK).

Speaking about the star-studded cast, Ben added: "I am delighted with the cast that has been assembled for Showtrial.

"It is a brilliant ensemble of talented actors that feels modern, energetic, and perfectly suited for the complex characters and storylines."

Showtrial is produced by World Productions, written by Ben Richards (The Tunnel, Strike, Cobra) and directed by Zara Hayes (Poms, Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist).
