BBC announce consultant tragically died after filming of Life and Birth

BBC viewers were left devastated after learning about the death of one of the lead consultant's on TV show Life and Birth.

Dr Vishna Rasiah, who worked as a "clinical lead" at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, died after contracting coronavirus, the trust announced on April 24.

At the time, his wife Liza said: "He treated every patient and family he cared for as his own. I couldn't have been prouder of him."

Tonight, Dr Rasiah featured on the BBC series which reveals what it really takes to deliver Britain’s next generation, through the eyes of parents and staff at three of Birmingham’s busiest maternity hospitals.

A tribute at the end read: "Dr Vishna Rasiah. 19th July 1971 - 23rd April 2020."

Viewers took to Twitter to offer their tribute to Dr Rasiah.

Akira said: "RIP Dr Rasiah."

Sara tweeted: "To think that lovely doctor isn't here any more because of that horrible virus it's just so, so sad."

Soph said: "Nice tribute to the consultant who had his life snatched by covid-19. God bless."

Kerri tweeted: "The most emotional episode of them all", followed by a crying emoji.

Lis said: "Fly free in the sky Vish."

And Hollie wrote: "Crying my eyes out."

Following Dr Rasiah's passing, Sarah-Jane Marsh, chief executive of the trust said: "Losing him in such a cruel and unfair way will be too much to bear for many of us, in particular anyone involved in neonatal care, and of course his beautiful wife and daughter.

"As our tears flow, we must always remember the values that Vish stood for, and hold his vision, courage and compassion in our hearts. God bless you Vish, and may you rest in peace."
