BBC and Met Office on when thunderstorms will batter Bristol - the 'danger' hours

Autumn is about to arrive in all its might - bringing howling winds, heavy rain as well as the potential for lightning strikes and hail.

A Met Office severe weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Wednesday from 4am to noon and people in Bristol have been urged to take care.

And while rain will feature through most of the day, there are some key hours when thunderstorms are predicted to hit the city.

The Met Office says that the first bolts of lightning could be seen from 6am to 7am on Wednesday in Bristol.

The next cracks of thunder could echo over the city from 9am to 11am.

The BBC says the thunderstorms are most likely between 6am and 8am in Bristol.

Later in the day, the Met Office says there could be some sunny spells in Bristol, with more heavy showers from 2pm to 3pm and some heavy rain under dark skies from 6pm to 8pm.

Wind gusts could reach up to 36mph by 1pm, coming from a west-south-westerly direction.

The Met Office says wet and windy weather will continue across the South West on Wednesday.

We should see sunny spells and isolated showers as it turns colder on Thursday in the region, with a drier Friday. Saturday should be settled, but rain and strong winds will develop later.
