BBC and ITV's Euro 2020 final coverage leaves England fans feeling 'short changed'

Well before the coverage has even started, England fans have been left feeling short changed by BBC and ITV's coverage of the Euro 2020 final.

In a big first for the tournament, both channels will go head to head with their coverage of Sunday's match and, after initially both were advertised as starting at 7pm with their broadcasts, BBC will now get a 10 minute head start on their rivals.

Gary Lineker and co will be on air at 6.20pm, while ITV's final show will get going at 6.30pm, right after an airing of classic film The Italian Job.

But the fact that both sides are only devoting less than two hours to their build up to a historic match for England, has left many fans feeling massively disappointed.

Tweeting former England striker Lineker, one fan told him: "Gary surely an event like this should have a longer build up. You get more pre match coverage for the FA Cup Final."

Feeling equally let down, another responded: "Gary surely an event like this should have a longer build up. You get more pre match coverage for the FA Cup Final. I know the men’s @Wimbledon final clashes but surely you can use the red button??"

A third reacted: "18:00 would have been ok. You guys should have enough time to do lots of analysis and numerological analysis"

With fond memories of the BBC used to cover the FA Cup Final, another tweeted: "Surely Gary it warrants cameras at both team hotels from 9am, interviews with players/fans, a look back at their route to the final, the squads final songs, coverage from helicopter as team buses meander through London all the way to Wembley taking us up to kick off."

And, while disappointed that there isn't more pre-match hype on ITV, others have backed the channel showing The Italian Job as an inspired move.
