BBC and ITV pundits in race for political advantage

Political editor jobs are like buses – there are none for ages, then two come along at once. With Tom Bradby taking up presenting duties on News at Ten amid speculation the BBC was interested in him, ITV is looking for a new political editor. As is the BBC, with Nick Robinson thought to be stepping down soon – he is tipped to join the Today programme, with Question Time another possibility (once David Dimbleby retires). So which of the jobs are the political pack going for? Front runner for the ITV job is newsroom favourite ITV deputy political editor Chris Ship. But Monkey hears there has been interest from BBC scoop-getter and deputy political editor James Landale, plus BBC Newsnight’s Laura Kuenssberg and Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman. Other rumoured names in the frame include Sky’s Joey Jones. But are some, quite rightly, hedging their bets by going for both? All far more interesting than the Labour leadership race they are covering, Monkey reckons.
